Cupping

Cupping is a technique that is often used to encourage healing and relaxation to compliment massage therapy. Placed on the skin, the cups—which are usually made of glass, silicone, or plastic and a vacuum is created that gently pulls the skin and underlying tissue upward. This suction helps reduce muscle stiffness, improve lymphatic drainage, and increase blood flow, all of which assist to alleviate pain, inflammation, and stress.

Cupping can help break down connective tissue adhesions and is a useful treatment for persistent pain and mobility issues. Although this is innocuous, it may leave circular markings on the skin that dissolve after a few days. This age-old technique, which comes from traditional medicine, promotes general health and speeds up recovery, making it a great addition to massage.
